These fossilized impressions contain several species of plant life including ferns and shrubs. Found in the Llewellyn formation in Pennsylvania, this fossil dates back 325 to 280 million years ago.  The black plate (or plaque) is anthracite (coal) and the white impression is the mineral called Pyrophyllite.

These striking black and silver pieces make for an excellent starter fossil for the beginner's collection.  The plates typically measure anywhere from  2-3" long by 4-5" wide and are less than 1/2" thick.

Each specimen is unique and the photographs are of representative pieces, intended to show the variations among specimens.  We will select a specimen for you.  Contact us before placing your order if you would like to select your specific piece.  We will send you a photograph of available specimens so you can select your preferred piece.

With each fossil purchased, we will provide you with a small identification slip to keep with your specimen.  We hope you enjoy your new treasure!
