This is the fossilized tooth of the largest shark to have ever lived - the Megalodon (Carcharocles megalodon). This extinct species of shark was believed to reach 59 feet in length, roughly three times the length of the longest great white shark, and lived 28 to 1.5 million years ago. The fossilized teeth from this apex predator are highly sought after by both amateur and seasoned fossil collectors and are often considered the most desired of fossils. Our teeth are scuba diver recovered from the waters of South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia and Florida.
Measuring 4 - 3/8" long (measured along the longest diagonal - root edge to tip), this tooth is graded at a 95% completeness level or better. This specimen has a beautiful golden-tan colored enamel and a rich, black root and bourlette. This tooth is gently worn and is absent its serrated edges. It is said that for every 1" of tooth, the shark was approximately 10' in length. That means this tooth came from a shark that was well over 40' in length! This tooth is the perfect gift at a great price for the collector, shark-enthusiast or aspiring paleontologist in your life!
