The Mosasaur was one of the last giant marine reptiles, reaching 49 feet in length. The skull alone on this aquatic creatures measured 6 feet long. It preyed on large marine reptiles, large fish, and free-swimming shellfish like ammonites. The mosasaurus was featured in the movie, Jurassic World.
This fossilized Mosasaur tooth remains encapsulated within the matrix (the original material from which it is extracted). Each piece contains fossilized remains of other marine life as well. This specimen has bits and pieces of bone fragments and includes a well-defined vertebrae on the underside. You will enjoy exploring this sandstone formation to discover additional fossil pieces.
The matrix measures approximately 3-1/2" x 2-3/4" x 1-1/2" tall. The Mosasaur tooth measures just over 1-1/8" long.
