You will marvel over this gorgeous whole ammonite fossil that has been mineralized in pyrite (called a pyritized ammonite). The outer layer on one side has been removed, revealing the stunning, glinting pyrite crystals within (pyrite is also known as fool's gold). The reverse side retains the original nacre shelled enamel, also called mother of pearl. Ammonites lived during the time of the dinosaurs and went extinct 65 million years ago. This is an exceptionally rare and spectacular preservation of this extinct cephalopod, this is undoubtedly a piece you will treasure.
