This pyrite specimen "grew" in this cubic shape, it was not made by a machine. Pyrite naturally occurs in this cubic form in only a few places in the world, Spain being one of them. This specimen was mined in Navajun, Spain. The pyrite is emerging from its "matrix" or surrounding rocky material. It is quite difficult to extract a specimen from the mine while retaining its matrix, as oftentimes they are chipped out or fall out of the material. Making this specimen even more desired by collectors.
Commonly known as "fool’s gold" due to its deceptively gold-like color, the name pyrite is derived from the Greek word meaning fire. Pyrite is thought to impart energy, block negativity, provide protection and bring success and prosperity. It is a symbol of wealth and good fortune. It is believed to be a protective, shielding stone. It is thought that placement of Pyrite in the home or workplace energizes the area and helps to overcome fatigue. Its resemblance to gold has made it a traditional symbol of good luck and money.
